Mangosteen - The QUEEN of Fruits

What would the King be, without the Queen. If Durian is the King, mangosteen is known as the Queen of fruits*. If you somehow had gone overboard with your indulgence, nature is at hand to provide relief.

This sweet tasting fruit will neutralise the 'heat' from the Durian. So where possible these two types of fruits are taken one after the other.

Where there's Ying, there's always Yang to balance it up. Life, after all is about balance.

*There is a legend about Queen Victoria offering a reward of 100 pounds sterling to anyone who could deliver to her the fresh fruit.[14] Although this legend can be traced to a 1930 publication by fruit explorer, David Fairchild, it is not substantiated by any known historical document yet is probably responsible for the uncommon designation of mangosteen as the "Queen of Fruit".[14] Wikipedia.

Lovely post. Thanks.

Okay, now you're talking. I hadn't heard about the neutralisation aspect before, but I actually prefer mangosteen to durian. We hardly ever get them here in Australia and when we do they are ones which have been frozen, but I love the flavour!

Couldn't you just skip the fruit you don't like?

Carole Anne Carr, thank you, good to see you here!

Adina, mangosteens are really sweet aren't they? Frozen are not half as good as fresh ones though. Used to pick up some near Harold St in Parramatta.

Secret agent woman, of course you can. But we live only once, and I expect somebody adventurous like you to go for it!

Jennifer, I hope you could find some in supermarkets in your area. They are really sweet, in taste and in looks - green when young and reddish maroon when ripe, while the flesh is pure white

Must be wonderful to have such tasty diverse fruits to choose from. Do you grow both these on your land?

Chai Chai, yes I grow these and many other tropical fruit trees (sapodilla, rambutan, longan, mangoes, etc)on my land. I'm also into planting rare trees that may become extinct if you don't propagate them
